The colours of the tapestry in the background reflect the jewel colours of my enamel painted design.

Quite emotional for me to see this ‘big blue’ come out of its packing case.

The summer in rural China is a time for insects, not just ladybirds and butterflies but beautiful dragonflies, crickets and cicadas, all manner of beetles with petrol black fluorescent wings and huge green grasshoppers.

This initiative was instigated by Kate Malone to fundraiser for the provision of pottery facilities, training, and staffing for a year to support young people through OnsideYouthZone network in the NW of the Uk.

Despite the grey sky and drizzle the colours at Kew are beautiful !!

The imagery I use comes from my stylisation of botanical studies of flowers and plants that I mix with references from traditional textile designs.

Painted in 2018 as part of the Ink Blue series, using chinese calligraphy brushes laden with cobalt oxide.
